Pricing Basis and Variations

All prices are based on standard and predictable labour times and are independent of the commercial value of the goods entrusted to us.

Final job pricing may vary — either higher or lower — where the design, stone characteristics, tolerances, or overall technical complexity of a piece require more or less time than is typically associated with the specified setting style. 

Care and Inherent Risk

All work is carried out with reasonable care and professional skill, in accordance with accepted standards within the jewellery trade.

Customers acknowledge that gemstone setting, engraving, and related bench processes involve inherent mechanical stress and an unavoidable degree of risk. Damage, including gemstone breakage, may occur even where reasonable care and professional skill are exercised.

Items and gemstones are accepted on the basis that they may contain pre-existing wear, damage, or structural weaknesses which may not be apparent prior to work commencing. A&F Setting shall not be responsible for damage arising from such pre-existing conditions.

By instructing A&F Setting, customers acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that items submitted are adequately insured prior to being entrusted to A&F Setting.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, A&F Setting shall not be liable for damage arising from the inherent risks of the work being undertaken, where reasonable care and professional skill have been exercised.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for damage caused by negligence or failure to exercise reasonable care and professional skill.

A&F Setting reserves the right to decline or withdraw from work where, in its professional judgement, the risk of damage is considered excessive.

 

Dispatch, Transit and Insurance

Completed items are returned via Royal Mail Special Delivery unless otherwise agreed.

Return shipments are insured up to a maximum of £15,000 per parcel (wholesale replacement value) under A&F Setting’s policy, at no additional cost beyond postage and handling.

This insurance applies only during transit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the carrier and insurer. Upon confirmed delivery, all risk passes to the customer.

Where customers request alternative shipping methods or collect items personally, all risk in transit passes to the customer upon dispatch or collection.

Customers may be required to provide an accurate replacement value to ensure appropriate cover. A&F Setting accepts no responsibility for under-declared values.

Any loss or damage in transit must be reported within 24 hours of delivery and prior to any further handling or alteration of the item.

The condition of items at dispatch may be recorded for reference.
